spea Essays - Federalism In The United States, Anti-Federalism

*The Federalists wanted a stronger central government. The Anti-federalists did not want to ratify and wanted to establish a smaller central government, as with the Articles of Confederations. The Federalists wanted a weaker state government- while Anti-Federalists wanted stronger. They believed a stronger state government would be more sympathetic than a strong central government. Anti-Federalists supported the small farmers and landowners while the Federalists supported large landowners, merchants, lawyers and judges. The Compromise: In order to avoid the power that the Anti-Federalists feared would come out of a strong central government, the Federalists compromised by coming up our three branch system; the legislative, executive and judifical. Each branch has equal power, and what one doesn't have in power, the other has, so that there's a clear separation of power (Checks and balances.) Not one has a clear, central power.
